Development releases - Don't use them!
The development section contains untested development releases. These are fairly current, buggy and unplayable from time to time. If you want to play a game, don't touch them!
Older releases - Don't use them either!
These older releases are just here for historic record, they are mostly very buggy and the level format has changed in the meantime, so don't use them for anything beside historic research. Be warned that some of them might corrupt and destroy your ~/.pingus/ directory and savegames.
